What I do not understand about essays.

There are many things I do not understand about essays. I really don't understand the thesis. What is it about? The introduction is kind of hard,too. Do I have to write a sentence about the subtopics; without listing the names. Another problem that I am having is with the conclusion paragraph. The structure is really difficult. Everything else is pretty easy, the body paragraphs are simple.
